Why Asilah

Asilah is the prettiest small town on Morocco's northern coast, forty minutes south of Tangier and a long way from the red city — so Marrakech travellers reach it on a northern loop rather than directly. A compact whitewashed medina sits inside Portuguese ramparts, with cobalt doors, bougainvillea and the Atlantic breaking against the walls. Each summer an arts festival repaints the lanes with fresh murals, and the town keeps its calm, creative air the rest of the year — a relaxed coastal pause between the energy of Tangier and Fes.
