How a private day works

Door to door, on your clock.

  1. 01

    Pickup at your riad

Your driver-guide meets you at your hotel, riad or the nearest medina gate at the hour you choose — early for sunrise routes, relaxed for the coast.

  2. 02

    The road is yours

Stop for photos, a tea with a Berber family, an argan cooperative or a longer lunch. Because no one else is on board, the itinerary bends to you.

  3. 03

    Back by evening

You return to your Marrakech doorstep the same day — usually in time for dinner on the square. No overnight bag, no hotel change.

What is included

Everything but the tips and your shopping.

  • Hotel, riad or apartment pickup and drop-off
  • Bottled water and snacks on board

Who a day trip suits

Best for travellers short on time.

First-timers with one spare day

You have three or four nights in Marrakech and want one big landscape day without committing to an overnight in the desert.

Couples and families

A private vehicle means car seats, flexible nap stops and no waiting on a coach full of strangers — the day flexes around your group.

Photographers and slow travellers

Golden-hour light at Agafay or Aït Ben Haddou, and the freedom to linger where a group tour would move you on.

No shared coaches

Only your party travels. No hotel-circuit pickups eating into your morning, no strangers setting the pace.

Licensed, insured drivers

Career Marrakech driver-guides on insured vehicles ≤ 4 years old, with child seats free on request.

One WhatsApp thread

From the first message to the evening drop-off, the same atelier runs your day — no call-centre handovers.

Practical info

Planning the day around the season.

When to go. Spring (March–May) and autumn (September–November) are the kindest months for any direction. In high summer the Atlas valleys and the Essaouira coast stay far cooler than the city, which is exactly why locals head for them. Winter brings snow to Oukaïmeden and crisp, clear light at Aït Ben Haddou.

How early to leave. Long routes such as Aït Ben Haddou and the Three Valleys reward an early start — your driver-guide will suggest a pickup time when you book. Agafay sunset trips leave in the afternoon.

Day trip or overnight? If you have more than a day, the Sahara proper (Merzouga or Zagora) is an overnight, not a day trip. For a taste of dunes and silence on a single day, Agafay is the closest you will get. Read our journal on the Atlas day trip for a first-hand walk-through.

Common questions

Marrakech day trips, answered.

How much do day trips from Marrakech cost?

Our private day trips start from $70 per person for the Atlas Mountains and Ourika Valley, with most full-day routes falling between $70 and $110 per person depending on distance and the size of your group. Prices are quoted per private vehicle, so the per-person rate drops as your party grows. Every quote is itemised and includes your driver-guide, fuel, tolls and parking — send us your dates for an exact figure.

Are these day trips private or shared?

Every day trip we run is fully private. You travel with your own driver-guide in your own vehicle, set your own pace, and stop where you like. We do not pool you into a coach with strangers — the only people on board are your party.

What is included in a Marrakech day trip?

Each private day trip includes a Marrakech-based English-speaking driver-guide, the vehicle with fuel, tolls and parking, hotel or riad pickup and drop-off, and bottled water on board. Entrance fees, guided walks and meals vary by route and are listed on each tour page. Tips and personal shopping are not included.

How long does a day trip from Marrakech take?

Half-day escapes like the Agafay desert run four to six hours. Full-day trips to Ourika, Essaouira, the Three Valleys or Aït Ben Haddou run roughly nine to twelve hours door to door, with Aït Ben Haddou the longest because of the drive over the Tizi n'Tichka pass.

Which day trip from Marrakech is best?

For mountains and waterfalls close to the city, choose the Atlas and Ourika Valley. For the Atlantic coast and seafood, choose Essaouira. For golden-hour desert without an overnight, choose Agafay. For cinematic UNESCO kasbahs, choose Aït Ben Haddou. First-time visitors with one free day most often pick Ourika or Agafay.

Can I customise a day trip or combine destinations?

Yes. Because every trip is private, the itinerary is yours to shape — add a cooking stop, swap a camel ride for a quad, leave earlier for sunrise, or extend a single day into a two-day loop. Tell us what you have in mind on the contact page and we will build it around you.

What should I bring on a day trip from Marrakech?

Comfortable walking shoes, layers (mountain and desert evenings get cold), sun protection, and a modest cover-up if you plan to enter religious sites. We refill your water bottle on the road. For the coast and Aït Ben Haddou, bring sunglasses and a light jacket for the open ramparts and the pass.

Do you pick up from my hotel or riad?

Yes. Pickup and drop-off at your Marrakech hotel, riad or apartment is built into every day trip at no extra cost. For riads deep in the medina where vehicles cannot reach, your driver-guide meets you at the nearest car-accessible gate and walks you in.
