The short answer

Yes, but go early. The Saadian Tombs are the 16th-century royal necropolis of the Saadian dynasty, and the Chamber of the Twelve Columns holds the sultan Ahmad al-Mansur. You see the main chamber through a single viewing window, and the queue for it builds by mid-morning. Allow 30 to 45 minutes plus the queue.

In more detail

The tombs were walled off for generations and only made known to the outside world again in about 1917. That sense of a sealed, hidden place is part of the visit, though the space itself is small.

When we checked in October 2026, the tombs opened daily from about 09:00 to 16:45, with last entry about 16:30, and shorter hours in Ramadan. They sit beside the Kasbah mosque, about 15 minutes' walk south of Jemaa el-Fnaa through Bab Agnaou, the carved 12th-century Almohad gate.

The entrance passage is narrow and the garden is gravel. Arriving at opening means the shortest wait at the window and quieter photographs of the tilework.

Good to know

  • Be at the gate at opening time.
  • Look up at the carving on Bab Agnaou on the way in.
  • Pair it with El Badi, a few minutes' walk away.
  • Bring cash for the gate.
  • Expect shorter opening hours during Ramadan.
