The short answer

Same-sex relations are illegal under Moroccan law, and public displays of affection between same-sex couples can attract unwanted attention or legal risk. Read your own government's travel advice and specialist LGBTQ+ travel resources before you decide, as the situation can change.

In more detail

The law is the starting point, and it applies to visitors as well as Moroccans. In practice, discretion is the norm for everyone: public affection between any couple is uncommon in Morocco, so the advice for all couples is to keep it low-key outside.

Booking choices help. If you want reassurance, ask a riad or hotel directly about its policies before you book; we can suggest places with known inclusive policies. Private transport and a private guide also take you out of most public situations.

We book every traveller without discrimination. What we can't do is change the law, so we would rather you decide with clear information than find out after you arrive. Ask us anything privately before you book.

Good to know

  • Check your government's travel advice for Morocco.
  • Ask riads about inclusive policies before booking.
  • Avoid public displays of affection.
  • Read specialist LGBTQ+ travel resources for current conditions.
  • Ask us privately before booking if you have questions about a riad or route.
