The short answer
Usually only on Fridays and Sundays, and not when the King is in residence. The Agdal Gardens are vast 12th-century royal orchards and irrigation basins south of the Kasbah, still worked and part of the UNESCO listing since 1985. Entry is free. Sources disagree on the hours, so check before you go and aim for a Friday or Sunday morning.
In more detail
The opening times we found in October 2026 ranged from about 07:30 or 09:00 to 17:00 or 18:00. Because the gardens also close when the King is staying at the nearby palace, ask your riad on the morning itself before making the trip.
Inside are walled plots of olives, oranges and pomegranates and the great basin, the Sahraj el-Hana, with Atlas views across the water. Allow about an hour. There is little shade and the dirt paths are long, so bring water and a hat.
The gardens are about 10 minutes by taxi south of Jemaa el-Fnaa. On a Friday, they make a good morning plan while the souks are quieter around midday prayers.
Good to know
- Go on a Friday or Sunday morning.
- Check with your riad that day; closures are not announced far ahead.
- Bring your own snacks; there is nothing to buy inside.
