Dadès & Todra gorges to Merzouga
Through the Valley of a Thousand Kasbahs, the switchbacks of the Dadès Gorge and the towering walls of the Todra Gorge, then east across the Tafilalt to Merzouga at the edge of the dunes. A long, scenic day of around 6–7 hours with stops.

An easy morning around Merzouga, then camels (or 4x4) into the Erg Chebbi dunes for sunset and an overnight in a desert camp with Berber music and stargazing.

North to Fes via the Ziz Valley & Middle Atlas
Sunrise in the dunes, then the long drive north: the palm-lined Ziz Valley and gorges, the town of Midelt, and the cedar forests of the Middle Atlas around Ifrane and Azrou (look out for Barbary macaques). Arrive in Fes in the evening — a big day of roughly 7–8 hours with stops.

Fes — the medieval medina
A full day in Fes el-Bali, the largest car-free medieval medina in the world: the Al-Qarawiyyin mosque and university, the Bou Inania and Al-Attarine medersas, the Chouara tanneries and the labyrinth of souks. A licensed guide is essential here.

Day trip to Volubilis & Meknes, on to Chefchaouen
Drive out to the Roman ruins of Volubilis and the imperial city of Meknes (the Bab Mansour gate and royal granaries), then continue north into the Rif mountains to Chefchaouen, the famous blue town, for the night. Around 4 hours of driving across the day plus sightseeing.

Chefchaouen, then the long road south to Essaouira region
A morning wandering Chefchaouen's blue-washed lanes, then begin the long transfer south and west toward the Atlantic coast. This is the longest single drive of the trip, so most travellers break it with an overnight near the coast or in the Marrakech region before reaching Essaouira — be honest with yourself that this is a road day.

Essaouira coast & return to Marrakech
Reach the breezy fortified port of Essaouira: the Skala ramparts, the blue-boat fishing harbour, fresh grilled seafood and a stroll through the UNESCO medina, with an argan co-operative on the road. Then the 2.5-hour drive back to Marrakech for your departure.

- This is a one-way loop with real distances — Chefchaouen to the Atlantic coast is the longest haul, and it is best broken with an overnight rather than driven in a single push.
- A private vehicle with a driver-guide is the practical way to link the desert, the imperial cities and the coast at your own pace.
- Fes genuinely needs a licensed local guide — the medina is a vast medieval maze.
- All distances and times are approximate and depend on road, weather and stops; build in buffer on the long transfer days.
- For travellers short on time, an internal flight (for example Fes back toward Marrakech) can replace one of the longest drives.

What is the longest drive on a 10-day Morocco itinerary?
The transfer from Chefchaouen in the north back toward the Atlantic coast is the longest single haul, which is why it is usually broken with an overnight. The desert-to-Fes leg via the Ziz Valley is also a long day at roughly 7–8 hours with stops.
Can I fly on part of a 10-day Marrakech grand tour?
Yes — to save a long drive, some travellers take an internal flight (for example between Fes and Marrakech) and spend the saved time in the cities or on the coast. We can build the route either way.
