Marrakech palaces, gardens & hammam
The Bahia Palace and Saadian Tombs in the morning, the Jardin Majorelle and YSL museum in Gueliz after lunch, then a traditional hammam to relax before the early start east. A full city day so nothing is rushed once you leave for the desert.

Day 3
Over the Tizi n'Tichka to Aït Ben Haddou & Ouarzazate
Cross the High Atlas via the Tizi n'Tichka pass (around 2,260 m), with photo stops on the switchbacks. Reach the UNESCO-listed kasbah of Aït Ben Haddou for a walk through its earthen ksar, then on to Ouarzazate and its Taourirt Kasbah. Roughly 4–5 hours of driving with stops.

Day 4
Dadès & Todra gorges to Merzouga
Follow the Valley of a Thousand Kasbahs through the Dadès Gorge with its dramatic switchback road, then the sheer rock walls of the Todra Gorge. A long but spectacular day east across the Tafilalt to Merzouga at the edge of the Erg Chebbi dunes — expect around 6–7 hours on the road with stops.

Day 5
Erg Chebbi dunes & a desert camp
A slower morning around Merzouga, then ride camels (or take a 4x4) into the orange dunes of Erg Chebbi for sunset and overnight in a desert camp under the stars. Berber music around the fire and, if skies are clear, some of the best stargazing in Morocco.

Day 6
Sunrise in the dunes, then west to the Atlas
Watch the sunrise over the dunes, then begin the long drive back west — retracing the Tafilalt and gorges country toward the Dadès or Skoura oasis for the night, breaking the return so it isn't all in one push. A full road day of roughly 6 hours with stops for the rose valley and palmeries.

Back over the High Atlas to Marrakech
The final leg recrosses the Tizi n'Tichka pass back to Marrakech (around 4 hours from Ouarzazate), with a last argan or pottery stop. Arrive in the afternoon for a final wander of the souks or a rooftop dinner before departure.

- This is a genuine road trip — three of the seven days involve 4–7 hours of driving, but the Atlas, gorges and dunes are the experience, not just transit.
- A private 4x4 with a driver-guide is by far the most comfortable way to do this loop; the mountain and gorge roads are winding.
- Desert nights are cold even in summer, so pack a warm layer for the camp.
