Why Agadir

Rebuilt from scratch after the 1960 earthquake, Agadir is the country's leading beach resort: a sweeping crescent of golden sand, a palm-lined promenade and better than 300 days of sun a year. It swaps old-city atmosphere for sea, surf and pure downtime, which makes it the obvious place to decompress at the tail end of a Marrakech trip — three hours south by road, or a quick flight. Above the bay rises the rebuilt kasbah hilltop; just north sits the easygoing surf village of Taghazout; and behind, in the Anti-Atlas, lie the palm-shaded pools of Paradise Valley.

FAQ

Agadircommon questions.

Is Agadir worth visiting?+

If beach, sun and surf appeal more than old-city character, yes — it's the country's strongest resort base, with dependable sunshine year-round and easy reach of Taghazout and Paradise Valley. It works particularly well as a relaxed coda after the medinas and the desert.

Agadir or Essaouira?+

Agadir is warmer, sunnier and more resort-flavoured, with a far larger beach; Essaouira is windier but far more atmospheric, with its historic medina and sea ramparts. They share the same coast, so plenty of travellers simply do both on the way to or from Marrakech.
