The short answer
Marrakech Menara Airport (RAK) is about 6 km from the medina, about 15 minutes by car. It is one of the shortest airport runs in Morocco. The drive itself is quick; the slow part is usually the last stretch on foot, because cars cannot reach most riad doors inside the old walls.
In more detail
Our transfer data puts the hop at 6 km and about 15 minutes. Traffic around the city gates can add a few minutes at busy times, but you reach the medina well under half an hour after the car leaves the terminal.
Where the time really goes is the arrival itself. Passport control and baggage can be slow when several flights land together. Then, once you reach the medina, the car stops at the nearest gate or square, and you walk the final few minutes to the riad, often with a porter wheeling your bags on a cart.
If you are staying in Gueliz or Hivernage, the new-town districts, the car pulls up right outside the hotel, so the transfer ends at the door. The Palmeraie hotels are also reached by car, about 20 minutes from the medina.
Good to know
- Send your riad's exact address and its nearest gate to your driver before you fly.
- Pin the riad on an offline map while you still have wifi.
- A pre-booked driver tracks the flight, so a delay does not cost you the pickup.
