The short answer

Usually, yes. An open-jaw ticket, into Marrakech and out of Fes or Tangier, or into Casablanca and out of Marrakech, removes one or two full days of driving back to where you started. On a trip that covers both the north and the south, it is the single easiest way to gain time.

In more detail

Morocco's main sights stretch from the Mediterranean to the Sahara. A loop that returns to its starting point means retracing hundreds of kilometres. Marrakech to Fes alone is about 6h30 by road. Flying home from the far end turns that day into another day of travel you actually enjoy.

Common open-jaw routes: into Marrakech, south to the Sahara, north to Fes, and home from Fes. Into Casablanca, through Fes, Chefchaouen and the desert, and home from Marrakech. Into Tangier, down through Chefchaouen and Fes, and home from Marrakech.

Open-jaw fares are often comparable to returns, but check before you commit. A private driver can start in one city and finish in another, so the ground arrangements adapt to whichever airports suit your flights.

Good to know

  • Compare open-jaw fares with a return plus a domestic flight.
  • Finish in Marrakech if you want your last days in the busiest city.
  • Allow a buffer night near your departure airport if the last drive is long.
