The short answer
Pack for warm days and cold nights. A light jacket covers the daytime city at about 19 °C; a warm mid-layer such as a fleece or packable down covers evenings at about 6 or 7 °C, cold riads, the Agafay and the Atlas. Add sunglasses and sun cream, and closed shoes with grip for rain or mountain days.
In more detail
Layers work best: a T-shirt or light top, a jumper or fleece, and a windproof jacket. Our winter guide calls the warm mid-layer non-negotiable for desert and mountain evenings. Riads can be cold indoors, so bring warm sleepwear and thick socks for tiled floors.
The winter sun is still strong, especially on rooftops and on Atlas snow, so sunglasses and sun cream stay in the bag. A light rain layer is handy for the occasional wet day and for a trip to the coast. For a day in Imlil or the upper Ourika, waterproof walking shoes are wise.
Dress for the culture as well as the weather. Long trousers or skirts and covered shoulders suit the medina in any season, and a scarf does double duty against cold and for visiting religious sites. If you are going to the Sahara, add a hat and gloves for the camp night.
