The short answer

Sometimes. Quad and buggy outings in the Agafay desert suit older children, and operators set their own minimum ages and decide whether a child can ride solo or only as a passenger. Confirm the rules when you book. For younger children, a short camel trek across the same hills is the calmer choice.

In more detail

No experience is usually needed. Operators give a safety briefing and a short practice run, a guide leads the convoy, and helmets are provided. Goggles or a scarf help against the dust.

Two-seater buggies have a roll cage and a steering wheel, and a parent and child can ride together where the operator allows it. Quads are handled with handlebars and feel more exposed, so they suit older children better than young ones.

Agafay is about 40 minutes from Marrakech. Our sunset trip offers a choice of a camel caravan or a guided quad circuit, then mint tea and dinner in camp, which lets a family split up for the ride and meet again at the table.

Good to know

  • Ask the operator's minimum age before booking.
  • Bring a scarf or goggles for the dust.
  • Choose the camel ride for young children.
  • Ask whether a child can ride as a passenger in a two-seater buggy.
