The short answer
Not yet. Al Boraq, Morocco's high-speed line, runs between Tangier and Casablanca, and an extension towards Marrakech is under construction. For now, trains between Marrakech and Casablanca run on the conventional line, a little under three hours, and you can join Al Boraq in Casablanca to continue north to Rabat and Tangier.
In more detail
Marrakech is the southern end of the ONCF rail network. Trains run north to Casablanca and Rabat, and on to Fes and Tangier, with the high-speed stretch on the northern part of the route. There are no trains south or east of Marrakech, so Essaouira, Agadir, Ouarzazate and the Sahara are reached by road.
For Tangier, the train is a strong option: conventional line to Casablanca, then Al Boraq north. By private car, Marrakech to Tangier is 580 km, about six hours on the motorway spine of the country.
Check current timetables on oncf-voyages.ma before you travel. The extension towards Marrakech will change journey times once it opens, and we will update this page when it does.
Good to know
- Book first class on long legs; seats are reserved and there is more space.
- Through-tickets cover a change of train in Casablanca.
- Allow a margin at Casa-Voyageurs if you are connecting to another train.
