The short answer
Yes to both. Free Wi-Fi is standard in riads, hotels, cafés and restaurants across Marrakech, and WhatsApp calls and messages work normally over Wi-Fi and mobile data. Connectivity drops only at Agafay and Sahara camps and on the high mountain stretches, where many camps offer little or no Wi-Fi by design.
In more detail
WhatsApp is how Morocco keeps in touch. Riads, guides, drivers and camp hosts all prefer it to phone calls or email, and it is how most travellers sort pickups, directions and dinner bookings. Once a trip is booked with us, you have a WhatsApp line to our team for help during the trip.
Riad Wi-Fi is fine for messages, maps and email. Speeds vary, so a mobile data plan is useful as a backup and for finding your way through the lanes.
Plan for the gaps. On an overnight in the Agafay or the Sahara, assume there is no Wi-Fi and download what you need before you leave the city. A Maroc Telecom SIM or eSIM gives a partial signal at some camps, often only at the edge of the dunes.
Good to know
- Save your driver's and riad's WhatsApp numbers before you land.
- Download offline maps and entertainment before a desert night.
- A small power bank helps on long driving days.
