The short answer

For everyday problems, the pharmacies of Gueliz and the medina are well stocked with infant paracetamol, rehydration sachets and familiar brands, and Marrakech has private clinics that handle travel illness routinely. Carry your travel insurance emergency number, note the nearest private clinic, and get a doctor quickly for a baby with a fever or a stomach bug that will not settle.

In more detail

Most holiday illness in children is a stomach upset or too much sun. For an upset stomach the key is fluids: clean water plus oral rehydration salts, which any pharmacy sells. Most cases clear in a day or two. If symptoms are severe, include blood or last beyond 48 hours, get seen. With babies and toddlers, act sooner.

Pharmacies are everywhere in Gueliz and around the medina. They stock European baby brands, infant paracetamol and rehydration sachets as well as the basics. Supplies thin out quickly in the Atlas and the desert, so carry a small kit on day trips.

Comprehensive travel insurance covering medical treatment and emergency evacuation is worth having for any family trip, and we recommend it. Keep the emergency number on your phone and on paper.

On our trips you can reach us on WhatsApp throughout, so tell us straight away if a child is unwell. A private trip also means the day can simply change: a shorter drive, an afternoon at the riad, a later start.

Good to know

  • Pack sun cream, a children's insect repellent and rehydration sachets.
  • Bring any regular medicines in their original packaging.
  • Save your insurer's emergency number on your phone.
