The short answer
It is a full-day loop through three High Atlas valleys south of Marrakech: the green Ourika valley, the high pastures and ski station of Oukaïmeden at 2,600 metres, and the Asni and Imlil valley at the foot of Toubkal. It suits people who want to see the range of the Atlas in a single day.
In more detail
Our Three Valleys day leaves at 08:30 and climbs first along the Ourika river, with an argan cooperative stop. Around 10:00 the road switchbacks up to Oukaïmeden, Morocco's highest ski station, often snowy into spring.
Around 11:30 there is a guided walk of one to two hours through villages, walnut groves and terraced fields to a viewpoint. Then you drop into the Asni valley and Imlil, with an optional slow tagine lunch on a riverside terrace. You leave at about 17:00 and are back at your riad by early evening.
It is a moderate day, with one walk and some altitude. It is more driving than a single-valley trip, so if you want a long walk or time to sit by a river, pick Ourika or Imlil alone.
Good to know
- Wear hiking shoes with grip.
- Pack a warm layer: Oukaïmeden is cold and may be snowy.
- Bring cash for lunch and the local walking guide.
