The short answer
Loose, breathable, light-coloured clothes that still cover shoulders and knees, a sun hat, sunglasses, high-factor sun cream and a refillable water bottle. Add swimwear for the riad pool, comfortable sandals plus closed shoes for dusty lanes, and a light jacket if you will visit Essaouira, which stays breezy all summer.
In more detail
Summer highs in Marrakech are about 37 °C in July and August, so clothes have two jobs: keep you cool and keep the sun off. Our summer guide recommends loose, light-coloured fabrics, with shoulders covered for the souks and any religious site. Linen and cotton beat synthetics.
Plan for water and shade. Carry a bottle and top it up at your riad and at restaurants. A hat with a brim and sunglasses matter more than in any other season, because the middle of the day is fierce even in short bursts outside.
Pack for the escapes too. Essaouira is dependably breezy, and our destination notes say to bring a light jacket even at the height of summer. The High Atlas cools as you climb, and early starts for trekking can be chilly. Evenings in Marrakech stay warm, about 21 °C at night, so you will not need much for dinner.
