The short answer
The 23rd Marrakech International Film Festival runs from 20 to 28 November 2026. The main programme is at the Palais des Congrès in Hivernage, with international juries and red carpets. The festival has traditionally held free public screenings in Jemaa el-Fnaa; with the square under renovation, check where the public screen goes this year.
In more detail
The dates come from the festival's own 2026 regulations and from film industry listings. The 2025 edition ran from 28 November to 6 December, so the festival has moved a week earlier this year.
It is Morocco's biggest film event, with guest stars, competitions and the Atlas Workshops for filmmakers. For visitors the effect is mostly on rooms: Hivernage hotels fill and prices rise that week, while the medina is less affected.
The weather suits evenings out. November highs are about 23 °C and lows about 10 °C, with sunset at about 17:30, and it is one of the wetter months, so carry a light layer. The festival week combines well with a desert trip, since late November is good Sahara weather. If you plan to stay in Hivernage that week, book early. The medina riads are less affected and are a short taxi ride from the Palais des Congrès. The free square screenings are open to anyone, with no tickets needed.
