Jemaa el-Fnaa square in Marrakech by day

The short answer

Yes, for space more than sights. Menara is an Almohad-era olive grove around a huge reflecting basin, with a green-roofed pavilion and the Atlas behind it on clear days. The grounds are free, the paths are wide and flat, and Marrakchi families come to picnic and stroll, especially in the late afternoon and at weekends.

In more detail

It is about ten minutes by taxi from Jemaa el-Fnaa and was open daily, roughly 08:00 to 18:00, when we checked in October 2026. Allow about 45 minutes, or longer with a picnic.

Compared with the souks, Menara is open, flat and relatively peaceful, which makes it one of the easiest places in the city for a pushchair and for children who need to move. Shade comes from the olive trees, so bring hats and water in the warmer months.

In winter, late afternoon is the time to see snow on the Atlas behind the pavilion. Keep small children close to you by the edge of the basin, which is very large.

Good to know

  • Bring a picnic and a ball.
  • Go late afternoon in winter for the Atlas view.
  • Keep toddlers away from the basin edge.
  • The pavilion has its own entry, separate from the free grounds.
