The short answer
Choose the camel for a slow, quiet ride over the ridges that suits families and children; choose the quad for a guided, faster circuit through the dust. On our Agafay sunset evening you pick one, then both groups meet for mint tea at sunset and a three-course dinner in a desert camp. Buggies are another option to ask about.
In more detail
Agafay is a stone desert of firm, rocky hills and dry riverbeds, which is why it suits engines as well as camels. The quad circuit follows tracks between low hills and Berber hamlets, with the High Atlas on the horizon. No experience is usually needed: there is a safety briefing and a short practice run, and a guide leads.
Camel rides go at walking pace, usually twenty minutes to an hour from the camp. You see the same hills and the same sunset, without the noise or the dust.
Our evening collects you from your riad around 16:00 and you start the ride around 16:45. Sunset tea is around 18:30, dinner with Berber music around 19:30, and you head back after stargazing from about 21:30.
Good to know
- Wear closed shoes for either ride.
- On a quad, sunglasses and a buff or scarf help with the dust.
- Minimum ages and passenger rules for quads vary; tell us ages when you ask.
- A quad fuel surcharge can apply in peak season; your quote will say.
