The short answer

July works in Marrakech only if you plan around the heat. It is the hottest month, with highs of about 37 °C and often more, so the city works early in the morning and after dark. In its favour: long evenings, the Popular Arts festival, Throne Day on 30 July, and cool escapes to the coast and the High Atlas. Skip the Sahara.

In more detail

Our weather notes for July read "very hot; plan sightseeing early and late". Walk before 11:00, rest in the afternoon, and go out again after 18:00. Sunset is at about 19:40, and nights stay warm at about 21 °C, so rooftop dinners and the square after dark are the best of the day.

There is culture to plan around. The National Festival of Popular Arts brings folk troupes from every region to El Badi Palace and Jemaa el-Fnaa; its 55th edition ran from 2 to 6 July 2026, and the next dates had not been announced when we checked. Throne Day, 30 July, fills the avenues with flags and lights.

Use what is close. Essaouira stays breezy on the Atlantic, about 2 hours 45 minutes away. The Ourika valley and Imlil are cooler as you climb, and summer is the season to trek in the High Atlas. The Agafay works for an evening once the sun is low. Save the Sahara for October.
