Jemaa el-Fnaa square in Marrakech by day

The short answer

Generally yes. The green carts squeeze oranges to order in front of you, so the juice is fresh, and it is one of the classic tastes of the square. The two things to watch are ice or water added to the glass, which you can ask them to leave out, and the posted price, which you should check before you order.

In more detail

The orange-juice carts line up across Jemaa el-Fnaa from the morning. They are numbered and stacked with oranges in neat pyramids, and the juice is squeezed while you wait. You drink it standing at the cart and hand the glass back, so glasses are reused through the day. If that bothers you, it is one to skip on a sensitive day.

Fresh juice from the stalls is generally fine, and it is a hit with children. The cautious move is to ask for it without ice or water, so that nothing but orange goes into the glass. Watch it being squeezed rather than taking a glass poured from a jug.

The square posts its juice prices, so check before you order, and hand over the right money if you can.

New juice and food carts arrived in spring 2026 as part of the square's renovation, so the line-up may look different from older photos. The carts are still numbered, which helps if you want to go back to one you liked.

Good to know

  • Watch it squeezed in front of you.
  • Ask for no ice and no water.
  • Check the posted price first.
